Recorded live at an event in central New Jersey on 10/5/19
Because no party is complete without great dance music.
We are a New York City based 9-piece band that specializes in funk music from the 1970’s. We play some of the biggest hits (and a few under-appreciated deep cuts) by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Kool and the Gang, Aretha Franklin, Parliament/Funkadelic (P-Funk), and many others. We have horns, percussion, excellent singers and a Hammond organ with a Leslie speaker. When this music is combined with our top quality sound system, light show and fog machine, you get an instant dance party!

70’s Funk Dance Party is managed by singer/guitarist Justin Wiggins. He will be your first and main point of contact throughout the whole booking process.
Hi there, Justin here. I am a big believer in the transformative power of a good party. There is something that happens when people come together to share food, drink and dancing that is supremely invigorating. However, as many of my friends started to get married, I noticed that the quality of the reception was often largely determined by the music. A good band can create a transcendent night, people stay and dance until the wee hours of the morning. Whereas a cheesy band playing a disorganized set or a DJ blasting grandma and grandpa with electronic music all night can cause people to get tired and use the proverbial “it’s getting late” excuse to call it a night.
I created 70’s Funk Dance Party to ensure my clients never have to deal with these problems. The wonderful thing about funk is that it is intergenerational dance music. Your mom loves funk, your grandpa can bust a move to some funk, my band loves funk, your boss probably loves funk. Everybody loves funk. Hearing a live horn section is a treat for all ages, hearing a great singer belting out some Stevie Wonder is pretty much guaranteed to go over well on the dance floor. Hearing the wail of a Hammond Organ and the rhythmic interplay of a percussionist and a drummer is exciting both for the band and for those boogieing on down out in the audience. It’s win-win. The audience gets a great party and the band gets to show off what it can do.
We have some of the finest musicians in NYC at our disposal and you can hear them on our recordings below. Not only will you get great versions of classic funk songs, but you will get them imbued with improvisation and zaniness to create wild mashups. We just might take Chuck Brown’s “Bustin’ Loose” from a sax solo, through some clown car music, into a tease of a Nelly song, and then back to Bustin’ Loose. (See the ‘Music’ page to hear us do just that).
You’ve already spent lots of time and money on your event, let us help you make sure your friends and family will be talking about it for years to come! Let’s make it a party where everyone DANCES!

Married 2019
“I cannot stress enough how amazing it was to have Justin and his band perform at our wedding. From the first conversations, he made it clear that he wanted our vision for the wedding to come to life. Throughout the planning Justin worked with us to create a perfect set list and feel for the day. He took our requests that we had, but also guided us with his own professional recommendations and wealth of experience. Most importantly, Justin was happy to take the lead and handle anything and everything when we were too stressed and busy with the rest of the planning. He and his band are authentically cool, genuinely kind, and impressively talented people that we are lucky to have had at our wedding. On the day of the wedding, everything went perfectly. The band was flexible to accommodate last minute changes and executed the set list expertly. Literally everyone, from my grandparents to my friends were up dancing and singing along with the band. It's been months since the wedding, and people are still raving about how incredible the wedding band was. While I won't be getting married again, I might need to throw another party as an excuse to have them back. Thanks so much Justin!!!”
